Carlos Boozer performed at the NBA Celebrity Game tonight in Salt Lake City, Utah. ‘Booz’ played for four teams during a 13-year career that ended after the 2014-15 season.
After retiring from the NBA, Boozer traveled to China to play for the Guangdong Southern Tigers and called it quits in 2017.
Carlos Boozer was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2002, a year before LeBron James arrived as the 35th pick in the draft. He was on the NBA All-Rookie Team after averaging 10.0 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game.
Boozer’s first contract with the Cavs was a two-year deal worth $913,137.
The former Duke superstar only played two seasons with the Cavs before joining the Utah Jazz on a six-year, $70.2 million deal. Boozer had his best NBA streak with the Jazz. He averaged 19.3 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.0 steals in 354 games.
It was with the Utah Jazz that Boozer became a two-time NBA All-Star and became one of the league’s top forwards.
Individual success in Salt Lake City did not translate to championship glory for Carlos Boozer. He left the Jazz as a free agent and played for the Chicago Bulls. Chicago signed him to an even more lucrative contract than the one he got in Utah.
Boozer received a five-year, $75 million contract from the Chicago Bulls. It was his last and biggest deal in the NBA.
Boozer’s play with the Bulls began to decline from his All-Star days at Utah. He averaged 15.5 points, 9.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 280 games with Chicago.
Carlos Boozer’s final year in the NBA came with the LA Lakers. He was signed by the Hollywood team off amnesty waivers, giving him a chance to star with the late Kobe Bryant. Boozer was paid $3.2 million by the Lakers while $13.5 of that amount remained on Chicago’s books.
According to Spotrac, Boozer’s career earnings in the NBA were $143.4 million.
The former NBA veteran then played for the Guangdong Southern Tigers for two years for around $10 million per season.

Carlos Boozer helps Team Dwyane win the 2023 NBA Celebrity Game
Carlos Boozer was a surprise name in the 2023 NBA Celebrity Game. He hasn’t been in the spotlight since retiring from the league nearly 10 years ago.
He provided the inside presence and rebound for Team Dwyane, which had Giannis Antetokounmpo and his brothers and Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn as coaches. The star of the show, however, was Boozer’s teammate and Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf.
Metcalf landed two thunderous dunks, played Dikembe Mutombo-like defense and won the MVP award.
