About the Opportunity

The NHMRC Clinical Trials Center (CTC) is a flagship academic research organization within the University of Sydney. The CLC conducts research to improve global health outcomes, bringing together world-renowned experts in clinical trials (design, methods, conduct), biostatistics, patient-reported outcomes, health economics, translational research, research synthesis and health technology assessment.

We are looking for a Research Operations Manager (0091305) who will be responsible for the overall management, coordination and administration of the operations of a number of translational research (TR) projects within clinical trials or stand-alone translational research projects relevant to a therapeutic area specific research.

Your main responsibilities will be to:

  • Provide oversight of the translational research component of a number of clinical trials in one or more clinical trial programs
  • establish and maintain effective relationships with translational research program stakeholders, clinical trial program stakeholders, including external sponsors, collaborative groups, pharmaceutical companies, trial management committees, directors CTC, clinical trial program managers and CTC functional heads
  • provide leadership, direction and supervision of TR team members
  • develop the TR component of clinical trial budgets and costs in close collaboration with the TR Academic Manager/Scholar and the Research Development Manager
  • liaise with and report to key internal and external stakeholders on TR progress and issues, ensuring compliance with testing protocol and lab manual and adherence to milestones, timelines and obligations contractual
  • provide administrative and other support duties associated with the TR component of clinical trials.

About you

  • Knowledge of the requirements of translational research and clinical trials throughout their life cycle, from start-up to closure, including a detailed understanding of the regulatory and ethical approval process
  • at least three years of relevant professional experience in the management of translational research, as a project manager, senior TR operations coordinator, principal researcher, research assistant or similar role
  • experience and literacy in financial management, experience in managing budgets and controlling income and expenses
  • demonstrated ability to work effectively within a team and to support and develop team members in their activities and professional development
  • exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to be able to exercise tact and discretion in dealing with day-to-day operational matters.
