Renard’s Cheese closes Algoma store, workers move to Sturgeon Bay site

The Renard's Cheese store in S County in Algoma closed abruptly on October 5, but the Renard's Sturgeon Bay store remains open and all five employees from the Algoma store will work there.

ALGOMA – A cornerstone of the retail cheese market in Kewaunee County has closed, but it is trying to make the most of a difficult situation by improving conditions for its staff at its Door County site.

Renard’s Cheese, a local, family-owned artisan cheese shop with retail locations in Sturgeon Bay and Algoma, announced Oct. 5 on its Facebook page that it was immediately closing the Algoma store in S.

However, the store in Sturgeon Bay, DK County just off State 57, remains open as usual and cheesemaking operations are unaffected. And no jobs have been lost due to the closure, as the five employees at the Algoma store will all work at the store in Sturgeon Bay, about 13 miles away.
