His bosses made a deal with Majid “Mo” Mojibi-Yazdi in the late 1970s: if he could turn around a refinery they had just acquired in northwest Bakersfield and turn a profit in three months, they would give him a share of the possession.

Mojibi was successful, and he continued to be successful – an Iranian immigrant from England who had worked in local potato sheds before rising from a janitor to become a respected leader in Kern’s oil industry, and later, the father of a very active commercial real estate company.
