Internships – The Contributor – New

internships

Thank you for your interest in an internship at The Contributor. Each year, The Contributor provides income-generating opportunities to hundreds of homeless and formerly homeless vendors. Our team of dedicated interns and volunteers are key to making this possible. The course descriptions follow:

Editorial intern: Contributor is looking for a writing intern who is passionate about telling stories from the perspective of Nashvillians who have experienced poverty and homelessness. The intern will have the opportunity to have their work published in The Contributor and on their social media sites and come away with clips to build their portfolio when applying for jobs in college and beyond. Multimedia applicants will be considered. This internship is unpaid and must be used for school credit. Applicants must be current university students. Previous editorial experience is a plus, but no experience is necessary. The contributor’s editorial team will work with interns to assign work that is self-propelled and aligned with the entrant’s career goals. Flexible hours: 5 to 15 hours per week.
Specialties: radio, television, media, public relations, documentary/film, digital communication, advertising, journalism, communication and media studies.

Social work intern:

.The Contributor Social Work Intern will gain valuable hands-on experience working directly with homeless people and navigating the process of securing permanent housing. You’ll help our Housing Navigators assist The Contributor sellers by running errands, making phone calls, and doing occasional office work. All majors will be considered, but would be especially beneficial for those interested in nonprofit management or social work. Applicants must be current students and must have a reliable vehicle, although mileage will be reimbursed. This internship is unpaid and must be used for school credit. Contributor’s office staff will work with the intern(s) to adjust responsibilities and ensure the internship aligns with the participant’s career goals.

Intern in the supplier office: This intern will work with our vendors and volunteers in the vendors office, selling them newspapers, finding their mail, answering their questions and just directing traffic. All majors will be considered as this internship provides valuable experience and insight into how a social enterprise works, homelessness issues and how politics affects our neighbours.
